SubEagle vs Suby

Two subscription trackers, neither one wants your bank login. Here's what actually differs.

Both apps skip bank linking entirely — that's not the differentiator here. What differs is what's free, what costs extra, and what each app actually tracks. We built SubEagle, so judge our side of this for yourself, but every claim below was checked against the actual app, not just its store listing.

The short version

Suby wins on: no ads at all, even free; a slightly cheaper Premium tier ($2.99/mo vs SubEagle's $3.99/mo); a home-screen widget (Premium-gated, but SubEagle has none at all); and it's on iOS too, where SubEagle is Android-only.

SubEagle wins on: custom icon/color ships free here, where Suby holds it back for Premium. SubEagle's free category totals also show real dollar amounts, not just percentages. SubEagle's export supports both JSON and CSV and can save straight to Google Drive as a destination — Suby's export is JSON-only and local-device only. SubEagle tracks price history over time, which we didn't find any equivalent for in Suby.

Neither app links your bank, sells your data, or requires an account. Both offer free local backup/export, and both gate their actual automatic cloud-backup feature behind Premium. If privacy is the deciding factor, either is a safe pick — the difference is in the details below.

What "free" actually includes on each side

SubEagle's free tier

Your full annual total and a category-by-category breakdown — as real dollar amounts, not just percentages. Custom icon and color for any subscription, multi-currency support, and local backup with export to both JSON and CSV — including the option to save that export straight to Google Drive. The chart visualization and drill-down, price history, and automatic cloud backup are Premium.

Suby's free tier

Unlimited subscriptions, a dashboard, calendar view, renewal reminders, multi-currency tracking, a free category breakdown (as percentages), and local backup — genuinely solid, and with zero ads anywhere. Export is JSON-only, saved to your device only, with no option to send it to Drive. The chart drill-down, a subscription "health score," automatic cloud backup, and the home-screen widget are held back for Premium.

Where each one is worth paying for

SubEagle Premium — $3.99/mo or $24.99/yr

The Annual Spend donut chart with tap-to-drill-down per category, Price History (every price change logged with the old price, new price, and date, tied back to your annual total), and automatic Google Drive backup.

Suby Premium — $2.99/mo or $19.99/yr

A subscription "health score," a chart drill-down and world-map view for your Insights, smart trial-ending notifications, real-time currency exchange rates, unlimited custom services/tags/payment methods, a home-screen widget, and automatic cloud backup — all of which sit behind this paywall on Suby's side.

Which one actually fits you

Pick SubEagle if —

You're on Android, don't mind a few ads on the free tier, and want dollar-amount category totals and custom icon/color without paying first. Price history and automatic Drive backup are worth the upgrade; even on free, you get both CSV and JSON export, straight to Drive if you want.

Get SubEagle on Google Play

Pick Suby if —

You want a completely ad-free experience even on the free tier, you're on iOS or want an app that works on both platforms, you'd like a home-screen widget (even Premium-gated), or the lower Premium price matters more to you than free custom icons.
